Contest: Amanda Antoun

   

With this determination, I took on the role early in the competition to look for supporters and sponsors who were willing to stand and support my dream in becoming the voice of young women through the title of Miss Lebanon Australia. This therefore led me to target my local community Marrickville starting at my favourite local food works, Banana Joes 256 Illawarra Rd Marrickville. They openly heard my proposal and offered their 100% support towards me and the charities. In saying this they saw potential in what I could achieve if they gave me the opportunity. On the 13th of February I began my first sausage sizzle fundraiser outside the Banana Joes store commencing at 11am. With their permission I was able to stick up my posters and hand out leaflets in which I have made to guide people on the ways to vote and sponsor. It was a wonderful day and I met many supporting individuals who were happy to learn the Lebanese culture. Such made customers aware of the importance of charity and giving to those in need. With the success of the fundraiser, Banana Joes gave me the permission to conduct one every second Saturday; with my next one on the 27th of February. Through their support and publicity I have created for myself other locals were happy to lend a helping hand including Post Café at 274 Marrickville Road, Marrickville.

   

The team at Banana Joes are a food works supermarket situated on Illawarra Road in Marrickville. We are not your average local supermarket that sells quality fruit and vegetables but we are community orientated store that contribute to the community by supporting local charities, schools and organisations. Through out the years we have been thanked for our kind support and we are proud to continue supporting the youth of Marrickville and other charities. In saying this, when Amanda Antoun approached us, asking for our support for the Miss Lebanon Australia Pageant we saw her blooming talent and determination through her eyes. We set task to help her raise money for the Westmead Children’s Hospital and the Westmead Medical Research Foundation through various fundraisers situated outside the shops. With her leaflets she was able to attract a large audience to support her as they could see what she aimed to achieve and the fact that it was for a great cause all wanted to be apart of the experience. With the help of her family the 1st fundraiser on the 13th was a success for both the shop and Amanda. With her great communication skills she was able to reach out to the locals and proved that with determination and self belief one is able to live out their dreams and reach their goals in life. On the 27th of February she will be holding a second fundraiser selling homemade Lebanese chocolates, cupcakes, sausages and giving out balloons to the children, come along and show her your support and help raise money for charity. We wish her the best of luck in the competition and hope she continues to strive to reach her dream as becoming Miss Lebanon Australia and we show her our full dedication and support.
