Community commitment fires Miss Lebanon entrant Amanda Antoun, of Marrickville, is an entrant in Miss Lebanon Australia competition.

Rashell Habib

AMANDA Antoun’s kind heart, giving soul and bright mind make her the perfect contestant in the Miss Lebanon Pageant.

The pageant has been running since 2000, and has become a national event, with the winner going overseas to compete in the international finals.

The Marrickville woman is studying to be a teacher and was encouraged to enter by her family and friends to widen the cultural understanding of the Lebanese community in Australia.

It is not her first time in the spotlight, having featured in the film The Combination, about the Lebanese community. She also starred in a film called Burn, teaching young Australians about the legal system and crimes that affect society.

‘‘The point of the pageant is that they don’t want someone who is just pretty, but someone who can help the Lebanese community and make a contribution to the wider community,’’ she said. ‘‘I value all the little things that make each and every person unique. My motto is about appreciating the extraordinary in the ordinary.

‘‘I want to be able to show young women out there the potential to succeed is within everyone and you don’t necessarily have to be born within a rich or affluent family to do something of worth.’’

Every second Saturday at Marrickville’s Banana Joes, Miss Antoun will hold a sausage sizzle to raise money for The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and the Westmead Medical Research Foundation.

The pageant opens on March 8 and the finals are on May 1. Visit misslebanon.com.au

Its Amanda again, how is everyone going?

I am in the process of conducting another fundraiser that will be very enjoyable. On the 13th of March we will be attending Greater Union Cinemas in Burwood Westfields (Westfield Shopping Complex Burwood Road, Burwood NSW 2134). The movie is undecided but it will be between Alice and Wonderland or Blind side, depending on what everyone prefers. The cost is $23.00 and that includes your ticket, drink and popcorn. Also a portion of that will go towards The Westmead Childrens Hospital and the Westmead Medical Research Foundation as they are the reason for the event. If i am able to get 100+ then we can have a private screening( the whole cinema to ourselves) So get involved and come show your support for the charities. Those who are interested it is much appreciated; please CONTACT AMANDA on 0449 673 355.

l will keep you posted on any changes and on the selected movie. see use soon!

Hi all, having conducted a few fundraisers I was determined to come up with something that was different and that would be enjoyable. Something that would allow all us contestants to really work together to raise money for our charities and show eachother support. It was then that i decided to organise a walkathon from Annandale to Bay run a 12km walk/run. It will be a great way to show our fitness and to interact with eachother outside from the pageant world. I am still in the process of organising it and putting it together but It will hopefully take place on sunday the 21st of March. I will keep you all posted on the event and whether or not the location or date will change. I hope everyone can come along and join the fun!

See you there at 11 am.

Interviews

Contestant: Amanda Antoun

Today, the Inner West Courier, Marrickville's local newpaper was at my house to take some photos and run a story on the Miss Lebanon Pageant. They became interested in the story as they witnessed the great support that the community has given to me and wanted to make the public more aware on who I am and what I aim to achieve in the pageant. It was a great experience and I am happy to be representing a community that is supporting me 100%. I hope to be a role model for all the young people out there who have a dream and want to one day achieve it. Im proving that anything is possible with faith and determination. I look forward to hopefully seeing it in next weeks paper. Watch out for it !
